Local Academy Boards

The Head teachers along with their Senior Management Teams and respective LABs are responsible for the day to day operation of each Academy in line with the Scheme of Delegation.  Local Academy Boards are made up of “Representatives” who “Monitor, Support and Advise” at a local school level to ensure that the highest quality of education is achieved and the wellbeing of pupils and staff are prioritised in line with Trust expectations.

The Local Academy Board hold a vital role in monitoring the delivery of education as well as providing support to the staff within Concordia.  As part of the Governance Structure, the Representatives bring understanding of and local knowledge to support the school to meet the needs of the community. LAB’s are made up of staff, parents/carers and co-opted community Representatives.

Local Academy Boards within Concordia Multi Academy Trust

Governance within Concordia is structured to ensure clarity, efficiency, and focus, with a well-defined schedule of meetings that facilitates strategic decision-making and accountability.

  • Annual Schedule: LABs meet six times per academic year, with a blend of full board meetings and focused Quality of Education meetings. These meetings align with the academic calendar to incorporate timely data and updates.

  • Meeting Structure: Agendas are standardised across the Trust, enabling consistency and efficiency.

  • Documentation: Reports, including the Headteacher’s termly report and updates from representatives, are shared in advance through Governor Hub, ensuring attendees are well-prepared for discussions.

  • Proformas: we have developed, with our headteachers, proformas to be used by LAB Representatives to report back to the Local Academy Board. These ensure the right areas are understood and challenged.

The roles that Local Academy Board undertake are:

  • Behaviour and Attitudes

  • Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

  • Health & Safety / Premises

  • Safeguarding

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

  • Staff workload and wellbeing

  • Quality of Education
