Childer Thornton Primary School
At Childer Thornton, we believe that all of our pupils will make a positive difference in the world around them. We aim to achieve this through our ambitious values-based curriculum, ensuring that children develop a sense of ‘botheredness’ about their learning, as well as developing compassionate empathy, confidence and the ability to articulate their opinions.
Childer Thornton is also an English Hub – one of 34 schools in the country selected by the Department for Education to lead on effective phonics teaching, early language development and reading for pleasure. This means that our teaching staff are experts with the delivery of phonics and we frequently have visitors into school to observe good practice. Staff hold different specialist roles for the Hub and we also have two mastery specialists on our team who work for the Maths Hub, delivering maths support to other schools.
Although our end of key stage 2 results remain well above national average, the focus of our school is very much the well-being and happiness of the children and our recent Oftsed inspection confirms this. We have created a highly inclusive ethos that allows all of our children to thrive, and our ‘No Outsiders’ approach to educating children about difference is a key aspect of this. In fact, our inspection report quotes one of our children saying: “‘We should not just tolerate difference; we should celebrate it.”
Childer Thornton is a happy school, where positive relationships flourish based on our three rules of ‘Ready, Respectful and Safe’.
