Life as Concordians
“Concordian”, let’s firstly give both credit and a wacky award to our COO for the introduction of this phrase - what started out as a bit of fun has actually started to fit in to our vocabulary as we want that Trust wide feeling.
Culture is such an important part of the decision making process as you want somewhere you can fit in and to develop your career. We are on our journey of creating a thriving culture across the Trust and all Concordians play a huge part in what it looks like.
We could write lots of words here, however, you’ll see we have introductions and hellos from our staff below and if you progress through the interview process you will be welcomed to our office or school to see the culture in real life.
What our Staff say
See below some quotes from our staff:
Town Lane ECT: “During my NQT year I felt very supported by my NQT mentor who provided great next steps for teaching. I was able to attend many NQT CPD courses with other newly qualified teachers in the area and this provided valuable insight for many different areas of teaching and learning. I felt extremely well supported by the Year 2 team in planning and delivering lessons to ensure consistent high expectations across the year group. This included valuable team teach opportunities with other members of staff to support my own development.”
Town Lane Teaching Assistant: Since starting my role as teaching assistant a few months ago, I feel so lucky to have found the most friendly and welcoming team here at Town Lane.
Everyone is so supportive and we work together to make our school a caring, safe and happy place to be. We all share the same vision and are dedicated to creating a family like environment. People care about me as a person and about my professional development too.
I love seeing our children learn and grow and them challenging themselves. It's also great to be able to share ideas with my colleagues and feel appreciated, valued and listened to. Our Head Teacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Management Team, are always thinking of new ways to encourage us all. Ensuring we meet regularly for wellbeing meetings and providing us with lots of information about upcoming training for us to easily action our next steps and ideas for continuing our professional development.
I am very happy being part of such a lovely team here at school. “
Parklands Teaching Assistant: “Working at Parklands is like being part of a family. Everyone looks out for each other and all of the staff help and support each other. It is amazing to see our children thrive in such a calm and purposeful environment; our school is a great place to work.
The experiences that our school provides for our children has such an impact on their life and educational journey and it is great to watch them grow. “
Parklands HLTA: “Everyone is made to feel welcome, there are no outsiders and we really are like one big family. All staff are valued and have an important role to play. We are united in ensuring we provide the best for the children we teach and work together to do so. “
Parklands Teacher: “While I have worked at Parklands, I have been well supported and mentored by the leadership team and other experienced colleagues. I really have joined one big team.
I have been able to develop as a subject leader and feel valued as a member of staff. Working at Parklands has been great for my own professional development and the links with other schools within the MAT have been really useful to share ideas and work together with colleagues.“
Highfields Teachers:
“There was an excellent level of support during my NQT and RQT years. During this time, I was able to access lots of relevant courses to improve my teaching. As well as this, there were opportunities to visit different year groups to learn from other teachers.”
“I feel well supported in school, senior leaders listen, they care about our well-being and work life balance.”
Highfields Teaching Assistants:
“There are great opportunities to develop my professional skills in school.”
“Highfields is lovely place to work, there is a positive team spirit and everybody cares.”
Professional Development
Here are some examples of our approach to professional development across our Trust:
- Clear vision for succession planning across the schools and Trust. This includes qualifications such as NPQSM, NPQSL, NPQH and HLTA.
- Mentoring and coaching for new staff joining the Trust including team teaching and support with planning.
- Mentoring and support for Early Career Teachers including support with planning, report writing, meeting with parents and SEN.
- Be part of established networking across the Trust from moderation to subject clusters or idea sharing.
- Opportunities to move to other schools in the Trust to develop skills.
- Cross Trust moderation opportunities across early years, key stage 1 and key stage 2.
- Shared inset day annually across the Trust celebrating successes and sharing best practice.
Diversity Equality and Inclusion
From operating No Outsiders and Jigsaw in the schools to the objectives from our policies, below, we are increasingly focussing on the need to embrace diversity, ensure equality whilst being fully inclusive.
- We promote the principles of fairness and justice for all through the education we provide in our schools.
- We ensure that all our children have equal access to the full range of educational opportunities provided by the school/Trust.
- We constantly strive to remove any forms of indirect discrimination or prohibited conduct that may form barriers to learning.
- We ensure that all recruitment, employment, promotion and training systems are fair to all, and provide opportunities for everyone to achieve.
- We challenge stereotyping and prejudice whenever it occurs (e.g. – when talking about gender identities/gender roles).
- We celebrate the cultural diversity of our wider community and show respect for all minority groups.
- We are aware that prejudice and stereotyping is caused by low self-image and ignorance. Through positive educational experiences and support for each individual’s point of view, we aim to promote positive social attitudes and respect for all.
Health and Wellness
Happy and healthy staff across the Trust will ensure that the education of our pupils is maintained at high levels and we don’t underestimate the analogy: happy staff (Concordians), happy customers (pupils).
Each school operates it’s own approach to staff wellbeing that is linked to the Department for Educations Wellbeing Charter and collaborated across the Trust including a wellbeing cluster where ideas are shared and proposals debated.
As well as this we also operate health care benefits including Virtual GP, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, stress coaching and physiotherapy to ensure that if anyone needs extra support a high quality service is available to them.
From Mental Health First Aiders through to an open door policy we are there to support the staff across the Trust.
